$208,500,000 Real Estate Commissions Settlement
When most people think of the American dream, there is usually a home somewhere in that dream. Well, the way Americans purchase their home will drastically change after a series of class action lawsuits settle and some go to trial. The CARE team has been closely following these cases for years and are excited to help people who sold their home recover the money they are owed.
What is This Case About?
This case is about the commission fees home sellers pay their real estate agents. Typically, the home seller will pay a percentage of the sale price to their real estate agent. The seller’s real estate agent then has to share that commission with the buyer’s real estate agent.
The lawsuit alleges home sellers basically paid inflated commission rates and the Defendants allegedly enforced these rules through anticompetitive and unlawful practices.
Note, there are multiple class action lawsuits underway with some settling and some going to a jury trial. By settling a class action, the Defendants are not admitting any guilt.
